Statement
For me, my work is akin to an excavation.
I search for and select scrap fabrics, often sourced from closed stores and markets.
I think of form as a two-dimensional element that, once sewn and stuffed, is “uncovered”, brought to light.
My research follows two thematic strands that are constantly intertwined and intermingled: the relationship between public and private life, and the concept of staging.
The first leads me to reflect on events, while the second focuses on the many different ways in which they can be narrated.
The process is never the same, but it often starts with the fabric. Once I’ve selected it, I focus on the image. Sometimes the image comes before the fabric, but if I can’t find a match among the pieces I have, I set it aside for later.
Digging, therefore, is necessary both to obtain the material and to bring the images to life: this creates a dual need for patience and “the right timing,” which punctuate the flow of my creative process.
